This album was the first BMS Historic release in the society’s 25th anniversary year. Digitally remastered and re-released for the first time since its original appearance on LP in 1952, this performance of Sir Arthur Bliss’s mighty Piano Concerto remains for many the most exciting, in both musical and virtuosic terms, yet recorded. The generous coupling includes the two other 20th century piano concertos Mewton-Wood recorded before his tragic death at the age of 31 in December 1953.
