A special concert taking place next month in Bradford which promises to be a treat for music enthusiasts and history buffs alike as it celebrates the music of composer Frederic Cliffe.

Frederic Cliffe was born in Low Moor in 1857. In 1889, the premiere of his Symphony in C Minor was a sensation and launched him as one of the most promising composers of his generation. But, despite further successes, he had disappeared into obscurity long before his death in 1931.

He wrote a number of songs, many of which were popular in homes across Victorian Britain. But they have long-since disappeared and don’t appear to have been sung in public for over 100 years.

The concert at St Mary the Virgin, Wyke on Sunday 12 October will reveal the musical genius of Bradford’s long-forgotten composer; those attending will hear about Cliffe in the words of his family and colleagues, and also his long-forgotten songs performed by local amateur musicians.
