Scottish First Minister John Swinney has pledged an extra £20m towards the cost of building the first new concert hall in Edinburgh in a century.

The addition money brings the Scottish Government’s total contribution to the project to £30m. The cost of the new hall has risen to £162m – more than triple the original estimates.

The 1,000-seater auditorium will provide a permanent home for the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and will be built on land adjacent to RBS’s Dundas House (pictured above) in St Andrew Square, formerly home to Sir Lawrence Dundas.

Despite being granted planning permission in 2021, the project has been hit with several delays and rising costs. Construction work is expected to being within weeks.
