The seventh annual Summer Music in City Churches will take place from 18 to 27 June in the City of London and feature music with the theme of Eternal Light and a feast of British music both old and new.
The legendary Sir John Rutter conducts the opening concert with a performance of his own work, Suite Antique, performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the The City of London Choir.
Other British music will feature with a performance of John Ireland’s Phantasy’ Trio by Mark Bebbington who joins principals of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. The RPO Brass players also receive a platform for a lustrous selection of music entitled Shining Brass, to include Walton’s Crown Imperial.
Other British composers featured include Eric Wetherell, Elizabeth Poston, Jacob Collier, and William Nathan Boyd (aka Billy Boyd). The theme of remembrance will shape a programme performed by classical guitarist Jack Hancher with excerpts from his new album The Memory Garden, and a composition by Dani Howard; You Don’t Have To Tell Me Twice, which was written for Hancher.
