The Red Violin Festival, taking place in Leeds from 14th to 19th October, will feature a wide range of British music including works by Coleridge-Taylor, Purcell and Britten.
Founded by violinist Madeleine Mitchell in 1997, this year’s festival will include the album launch of the London Chamber Ensemble Howells & Wood Quartets for SOMM.
Other events include:
- Mitchell, Gordon MacKay and Nigel Clayton performing works by Judith Weir, Michael Nyman, Rebecca Clarke and the world première of a new piece by James B Wilson My Love is Sleeping with the support of the Vaughan Williams Foundation
- young violinists as part of In Harmony Opera North education programme performing Peter Maxwell Davies and Malcolm Singer Schtetlmusik
- a new piece by James Gerard for 100 violins will be performed as a Flashmob in Trinity Centre, Leeds.
