The following members have joined the Society since the start of 2024:
- James Clark, USA
- Christopher Flood, Somerset, UK
- Adam Pounds, Cambridge, UK
- Richard Stacpoole-Ryding, Kent, UK
On joining Adam Pounds told E-News: “I am a composer and was a private student of Sir Lennox Berkeley. I am a member of the Lennox Berkeley Society and was chair for a number of years. I now serve on the committee.
“Geoffrey Atkinson reviewed the latest Chandos disc by John Wilson and the Sinfonia of London which features my third symphony. The CD entered the Specialist Classical Charts at number one last week which was very exciting.
“I also conduct in Cambridge and have included the music of Berkeley, Britten, Holst, Vaughan Williams, Finzi and others. I’m pleased to be joining a society that actively promotes British music.”
Richard Stacpoole-Ryding explained his reason for joining: “I’ve joined the society because over the past few years, since my retirement, my interest in English music and composers has broadened, and by joining the society I will not only increase my knowledge and love of British music, but also my support will help the society to promote music to a wider audience.
“I have always had a fondness for Elgar, Holst, Parry, Vaughan Williams, but recently have found new friends in Bax, Bliss, Sterndale Bennett and many other composers who are new to me. I have no doubt that there are many exciting years of discovery to come in extending my repertoire.”
