Violinist and BMS member Madeleine Mitchell reports on her busy season of festivals and music courses in Italy, France and Wales.

One of her highlights from the last season was performing Grace Williams’ Violin Concerto and Vaughan Williams’ The Lark Ascending in concerts with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales. Both were broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and BBC Wales and received a very positive review in Seen & Heard International.

Madeleine was also involved in the season opener for Kensington & Chelsea Music Society, of which she is a Vice-President. This concert took place in the stunningly refurbished Leighton House, commemorating music by Joseph Horovitz (1926-2022) Read the review here.

Also this season, Madeleine was proud to be able to record the piece written for her by Errollyn Wallen (pictured below), Sojourner Truth with the composer herself on the piano and supported by the RVW Trust.

And finally, Madeleine has been working with pianist Clare Hammond on a suite composed for her by British composer, Robert Saxton. Premiered in 2019, the recording has just been released on the Divine Art label.
