BMS member David Mackie has written a sequel to his 2018 publication Nothing Like Work or Right in the D’Oyly Carte.
That book chronicled his time there as repetiteur from 1975 to 1976, and chorus master and associate conductor from 1976 to 1982. Those years coincided with the Company’s last seven years from its centenary year in 1975.
David Mackie’s sequel, A Bit More Like Work or Life After D’Oyly Carte tells of his life as a freelance accompanist and musical director from 1982-2020.
It was at this point that his work virtually stopped due to the outbreak of Covid-19. The book includes details and insights into many of the concert tours which took the company to the USA and Canada, work in Europe and beyond, and also his work for the BBC.
Available online and from all major retailers, A Bit More Like Work or Life After D’Oyly Carte is published by Grosvenor House Publishing Limited (ISBN: 978-1-83975-494-4).
