Conductor Steuart Bedford had died at the age of 81.
He was best known as Artistic Director of the Aldeburgh Festival from 1974 to 1988 and gave the world premiere of Death in Venice, as well as making its first recording, and was in demand as a conductor of many of Britten’s other operas.
