The latest issue of the Mozart Edition / EditionUK newsletter featured English composer Madeleine Dring whose legacy endures through her captivating contributions to 20th century British music.

Dring (1923–1977) was a composer, pianist, violinist, and actress who was celebrated for her melodic charm and unique blend of classical and jazz influences.

A scholarship student at the Royal College of Music, she studied under composers such as Ralph Vaughan Williams and Herbert Howells.

The newsletter pointed out that she was known for her songs, chamber works, and piano pieces, with notable compositions such as the Trio for Flute, Oboe, and Piano and Five Betjeman Songs.

Her music, often characterized by wit and elegance, has gained recognition posthumously for its modern British voice.
